Press Conference on Conviction of Sherwan Sherwani

Today CPT Iraqi Kurdistan held a press conference in Sulaymaniyeh to express our strong concerns on the recent conviction of Sherwan Sherwani and convey our critical observations from the Erbil Criminal courtroom on 20th July.

CPT IK strongly condemns the treatment of Sherwan Sherwani by the KRG and its judicial system. The recent sentence of four years was delivered less than two months before his scheduled release from prison. CPT believes it is part of a continued campaign to punish Sherwan for his journalistic work.

We, as CPT, have witnessed 24 trials of all the Badinan prisoners and will continue to fight for justice and freedom of the press.

تیمی CPT لە کوردستانی عێراق، لەو باوەڕەدایە کە ئەم سزایە بەشێکە لە کەمپینێکی بەردەوام بۆ سزادانی شێروانی بە هۆی کارە ڕۆژنامەوانییەکانیەوە.
